Abstract:
The study of the stress and the stress intensity factor at the tip of crack has a certain meaning for failure of structural and crack extension. Crack tip stress of open thin-walled cylindrical under eccentric compression force is presented, and crack tip stress intensity factor was studied using J integration theory. A numerical solution is obtained using the finite element method. In order to solve singularity of the stress field and the discontinuity of the crack tip, three-dimensional singular element is using the tip of crack. The influences of some parameters, including the load, crack lengths, eccentricity and the placket angle of open cylindrical thin shells were studied numerically. The results show that the stress and the stress intensity factor at the tip of crack can be improved by increasing placket angle, eccentricity, load and crack length. And they also show that the eccentricity has a relationship with the influence of the crack length on the stress intensity factor and the stress, that is, the stress intensity factor and the stress at the tip of crack is increasing by increasing the crack length only when the eccentricity is larger a certain value. Otherwise, when an eccentricity is less than a certain value the crack length will have no effect on the stress intensity factor and the stress at the tip of crack.
