Abstract:
Composite ribbed shell is a new type of stadium structure, which is consisted of thin concrete shell and composite ribs. This kind of new structure has many advantages, such as during the whole construction process, the founded members are used as the formworks and brackets to the latter. The new structure retains all the benefits of thin concrete shells, while eliminates the need for temporary formwork and minimises the required falsework, declines construction cost. Mechanical behavior and influence factors of composite ribbed shell are mainly analyzed with composite structure nonlinear finite element method, 3-D beam element and higher 8-node curved shell element are used, arc-length method is used to trace the whole mechanical behavior, and membrane forces and axial forces are observed too. Different conditions such as height-span-ratio, boundary conditions, composite rib section dimension and different loading are discussed. It is found that: nonlinear bearing capacity is much smaller than that of linear one; as the height-span ratio value becoming larger and boundary condition more rigidity, the ultimate bearing capacity is greatly increased, while composite rib section dimension has little influence.
