Abstract:

China faces more and more severe environmental and energy crisis. The environment-conscious ecological building will be the inevitable choice of sustainable development. Today lots of ?ecological? housings and communities are emerging in China. However, most of them misinterpret this concept deliberately or unconsciously. To help housings in our country towards true sustainability, some opinions are presented in this paper. Firstly, Assessment System and mandatory codes for Ecological Buildings must be enacted in order to lead to widespread improvements of housing performance. Secondly, localization should be taken into account in housing codes. Thirdly, transparency of enacting a code will encourage participation of all levels and monitor policy makers. Finally, incentive measures will greatly arouse enthusiasm of build ecological housings.
