Abstract:
Land has the ability to attract the technological and socioeconomic resources, and comprehending and strategically leveraging this capability presents a significant challenge in land-use planning. This study investigates the influence of land attractiveness on the distribution of specific population groups and socio-economic activities, introducing a "land attraction index" to quantify the probability of such distributions. This research conducted a case study in China to explore the relationship between land attraction and emerging Taobao villages from 2019 to 2021. Drawing on multi-source data—including internet-related datasets, Points of Interest (POI) data, and housing/rental market data—the research examines how land attractiveness shapes urban and rural landscapes. The findings reveal that land attraction index serves as a robust predictor of population clustering and socio- economic activity, particularly in the context of China’s rural urbanization driven by e-commerce.
