Three dimensional stability analysis of jointed abutment rock mass of high arch dam

- In cracked high arch dam aseismic stability analysis, the physical mathematic models based on continuous medium or broken loose medium is very distant apart from the actual situation. This article regards the dam and the cracked abutment rock mass as the nonlinear continuous mass which allowing local break and big distortion, and uses dynamic contact unit model to carry on the nonlinear numerical simulation for Xiaowan arch dam system with the height of 292m. Considering the high water level and earthquake loads, the stress and strain of the dam are calculated, and an aseismic analytical evaluation about the cracked dam abutment is carried on. Numerical analysis shows that horizontal contraction joint of the arch dam should influence deformation and stress of dam, the shoulder of dam with latent slip enlarges dam stress and the anti-earthquake safety of the dam will decrease. At the conditions of high water level in period and earthquake, the designed XiaoWan high arch dam shoulder with joint rock is stable on the whole.
