Abstract:
The requirements for energy conservation and environmental protection can be met through maximizing energy utilization of a unit. Low pressure economizer (LPE) can be utilized to significantly recover waste heat from boiler exhaust flue gas in steam power plant. In this paper a mathematical model is established in which mass and energy balances are considered. The equivalent enthalpy drop method and the conventional heat balance method which includes input-output and heat-loss are employed in the thermodynamic and economic analysis. In case study, a 1000 MW supercritical generating unit is analyzed, 6 possible connecting schemes of the LPE system are compared. Simultaneously heat exchangers are designed correspondingly for each system. Simulation calculations are conducted to evaluate the energy saving effects quantitatively. The results show that the additional low pressure economizer can obtain considerable economic benefits by directly reducing boiler exhaust flue gas temperature, effectively improving unit efficiency, decreasing heat rate, and reducing coal consumption. It is found that there is a maximum net electrical efficiency through the comparison between different technical innovations. Further, mathematical optimization techniques are applied to search for optimal solutions in which both the investment and operation costs are taken into account. These features make the low pressure economizer system suitable both for new installations and for retrofit of existing power plants.
