A new design of high strength through bolts-endplates connections for concrete filled square steel tubular column and steel beams was proposed. A total of 3 pseudo-static experiments had been conducted. The nonlinear finite element analysis involving geometric, material and contact nonlinearities were presented using the ANSYS finite element package. The influences of the axial force ratios, the strength of concrete, the pre-tensioning force of high strength through bolts, the thickness of endplate and the stiffener of endplate on the hysteretic behavior of the connections were systematically studied. The results obtained from the finite element analysis showed that the axial force ratios and the strength of concrete have little influence on the hysteretic behavior of the connections, and the decrease of the pre-tensioning force of high strength through bolts reduces considerably the energy dissipation capacity. The thickness of endplate and the stiffener of endplate have remarkable effect on the hysteretic behavior, and the stiffeners of endplate are more effective than the increase of the thickness of endplate for improving the behavior of the connections. The results obtained from the finite element analysis and the experiments revealed that the connections have excellent strength, stiffness, ductility and energy dissipation capacity.
