Distribution of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in the Guanzhong Region of Weihe River, China

With the method of solid phase extraction(SPE) and gas chromatography mass spectrometry(GS-MS), the distribution and component features of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in the main stream and tributary of Weihe River, Shaanxi section are analyzed. The results showed concentrations of β-HCH, chlorothalonil, DDD, DDE and DDT in the 8 monitoring sections of Weihe River are separatively ND-2054.34ng/L, ND-12.87ng/L, ND-68.4ng/L, ND-406ng/L and ND-82.9ng/L. The pollution in tributaries is more serious, compared with other regions the concentrations of β-HCH and DDTs in the Weihe River are higher. Results also showed that the content of β-HCH is the highest in 5 kinds of OCPs, followed by DDTs in the mainstream and tributaries of of Weihe River, Guanzhong section. Chlorothalonil occasionally appeared. The composition of organochlorine pesticides in the water is greatly influenced by regional differences: Concentrations of DDTs are higher in Baoji - Xianyang section and Weinan section. Concentration of β-HCH is higher in a few tributaries around Xi'an. Organochlorine pesticides in the water also showed obvious seasonal variations: wet season > normal season > dry season.
