The research and application for the seismic computation method of long-span steel structure

- Abstract:A summary is made about the seismic computation method of long-span steel structure and its research status. There are response spectrum method, random vibration method, time-history method and static elasto-plastic analysis method generally, all of which are modified for the long-span steel structure itself characteristics (considering spatial variation effect of earthquake, such as traveling wave effect,partial coherence effect, local site effect and non-stationary random response etc). Because of simple calculation and appropriately considering traveling wave effect etc, the first two methods have been adopted in a certain range. Whereas, mode superposition principle was referenced,which leading to their application in linear seismic analysis generally. Nonlinear seismic analysis can be analyzed accurately by time-history method, but its application was limited for its complicated calculation and dependence on input earthquake wave. Comparing with time-history method, static elasto-plastic analysis method overcomes the above disadvantages and a relative stable result can be obtained. However, when the fundamental vibration mode of the long-span structure is vertical deformation,static elasto-plastic analysis method, named Push-over method, does not suit for it any more. Based on its principle, Push-down method was proposed by some scholars, which can be easily applied to evaluate the seismic performance of this kind long-span structure. However, some problems have not been solved completely about Push-down method, such as determination about vertical load mode accurately, selection about mode participation number, coupling among each mode and so on. After the contrast about these four kinds of methods, author holds that the traditional response spectrum method can only be used in relative small-span structure or when spatial variation effect is neglected. Otherwise, pseudo-excitation method or multi-support non-uniform excitation response spectrum method should be used. In a word, elasto-plastic analysis method is a development tendency in nonlinear seismic analysis,but in view of Push-down method based on Push- over method has been in a starting stage, time-history method is mainly selected at present. Certainly, these two methods can be compared to use in some complicated and important structures for a comprehensive reference to designer.
