Ultrahigh Energy Density and Flame-Retardant Integrated Hydrogel Supercapacitors Enabled by Small Molecule

- Abstract:The design and fabrication of supercapacitors (SCs) with high energy density and flame retardancy using soft matter remains challenging. Here, we propose a strategy for constructing integrated hydrogel SCs with high energy density and excellent flame retardance incorporating phytic acid (PA) and acrylic acid (AA) molecules. The strategy employs a one-pot room-temperature method to prepare a highly conductive PA/PAA hydrogel and in situ growth of polyaniline(PANI) electrode layers to form an integrated hydrogel SC, which exhibits a maximum areal capacitance of 1254.55 mF cm−2 , an energy density of 784.09 μWh cm−2 , and a power density of 2790.49 μW cm−2. The electrochemical properties were also stable under bending, compression and 5000 cycles. The surface temperature of pigskin covered with the SC was only 36.9 °C after being exposed to a butane torch for 15 s. This work significantly advances the process of soft matter chemical engineering for flexible energy storage.
