Risk Analysis of Pipe Bursts in Xi’an Water Supply Network

• Abstract:As pipe bursts in water supply networks occur more and more frequently in China, water safety and reliability becomes more sensitive and fragile. Based on last 10 years’ accident records of Xi’an water supply network the regularity and potential risks of pipe bursts are found out. The data is analyzed from 5 aspects, including accident year, accident month, pipe diameter, pipe material and network age. The results show that the accidental rate is much higher in Xi’an, especially in seasonal transitions and summer. And gray cast iron pipes and smaller pipes have high accidental risks. Moreover, pipe ageing, human damage, external force and foundation sedimentation have great influences on accidental rate. Therefore, the risk analysis of pipe bursts provides useful information for accident control and water reliability improvement.
